Overview
Sharks and Minnows is a tag game that becomes increasingly harder to avoid being tagged.
Objective
To be the last one standing
Rules
Mark two safe zones on both ends of your playing area. Choose one person to be it. They will now be called a “Shark”.
All the other players (now called “Minnows”) will begin the game in one of the designated safe zones.
The goal of the Minnows is to make it across the ocean to the other safe zone without being tagged by a Shark. If a minnow makes it across safely they will continue to play as a minnow. However, if they are tagged by a shark, they must remain in the middle and are now an additional shark standing in the way of safe passage for the minnows. All Sharks are able to move freely within the ocean in their attempt to tag minnows as they go by.
Ways to Play
There are a few ways to play this game.
1. Free-For-All
All kids to attempt to cross the ocean whenever they want to.
2. Minnow Dump
All minnows must attempt to cross the ocean on your command.
3. Selection
Only minnows who meet the called out criteria are required to attempt to cross. For example: if the call out is “If you are wearing blue” then all children wearing blue must attempt to cross the ocean. Those who do not have anything blue on stay in the safe zone.
